Volkswagen Puebla: production adjustments and job cuts

At the end of October 2026, the Volkswagen plant in Puebla reduced Taos production to a single shift. The following day, it signed a wage agreement with its employees, committed to paying 73 million pesos to Cuautlancingo, and projected investments of more than $2.1 billion on the site together with Audi. The state of Puebla then spoke of diversifying its economy in the face of Volkswagen's decline, while the adjustments weakened the local economy. In early November, employees denied rumors of closure, and the union hopes to recover jobs through the assembly of the Golf. A local tally records at least 4,011 job cuts in the automotive sector in Puebla and Tlaxcala in 2026.
