Thailand: 35% tax on imported EVs and electric transition

Thailand continues the transition of its automotive industry toward electric, with development of batteries and high-end components, while electric vehicles reach 55.5% of sales. Bangkok plans to raise the consumption tax on imported EVs from 10-15% to 35% starting in 2027, to limit Chinese imports and encourage local production. Several Chinese EV brands say they support this increase as part of the local production policy. Coverage is mainly by Chinese media, with Germany and the United States following the issue only marginally.
