Thailand: 35% tax on imported electric vehicles from 2027

Thailand is raising the consumption tax on imported electric vehicles from 10-15% to 35% starting in 2027, in order to limit Chinese imports and encourage local production. This measure is part of an already advanced electric transition, where electric models account for 55.5% of sales and where the industry is developing batteries and high-end components. Thai automotive production is expected to rise by 7% after this increase, a sign of a shift toward local production. The sub-events show a difference between Thailand, which is adopting the tax, and China, whose manufacturers are directly concerned and some of which have declared themselves in favor of the measure; Vietnam is also among the countries covered.
